VMware Horizon Client. VMware Horizon Client. (com.vmware.horizon) is a Mac OS X software application that has been discovered and submitted by users of iBoostUp.

I am trying to open the files of an old computer running Windows 3.1. the files include MS Publisher, MS Works, encyclopedia Compton, & several other w/3.1 compatible programs. Y at - it a program or an update to Vista that can be used to open these files? What I try to open it & save programs on a version of Windows 3.1 & Vista before using on Vista? I can't open files from MS Office that have been made on a computer running Windows 98 or 2000. Any ideas?

Windows has many built-in features to make it as compatible as possible with older versions, but Windows 3.1 is really a little old! You can try to use Compatibility Mode, but it goes only up to what Windows 95.

To run an older program in Ccompatability Mode (as if your PC was using an older operating system):

1. right click on the program and select 'properties '.

2. go in the 'Compatibility' tab at the top.

3. check the first check box and to set up the 'Windows 95 operating system '(which is as old as that).

4. check all other settings for maximum compatibility (depending on the program that you try to use, some may not be necessary, but you should try each of them to be sure).

5. click 'OK' and try to run the program.

Note: If you want to try to do this at a program Office (and other Windows programs), this may not work. Please ask for more help with this.

    Hi Julien,

Please provide the complete error message you receive when installing the printer software.

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1: use the Windows Installer Cleanup utility fordelete all entries that are associated with the product that you have trouble to install (printing software):

Download and then install the Microsoft Windows Cleanup utility. To do this, see the Microsoft Web site:

Save the file to the desktop. When the download is complete, double-click the file and then follow the directions. When the installation is complete, click Start, point to all programsand then click Windows Installer Cleanup.

In the list of the products installed , delete all entries that are related to the product you have installed wrong. If there are too many entries, click select all, and then click Remove. When you have deleted all entries, click exit, and then start the installation of the product

Description of the Windows Installer Cleanup utility

Step 2: Put the computer to boot and then try to install the program

Follow step 1 in the link below,

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.

After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.

Important: n ' forget not the computer to start normal follow step 7 in the link.

  • Earlier today, I got my computer, but I was about to go somewhere. Before I closed my laptop and put it in mode 'sleep', I saw a notification that a new update has been installed.

Now, I can not my laptop to windows at all. In the beginning, it was just a black screen. Now, a screen will appear asking me if I want to do the Startup Repair.

I tried to do the Startup Repair, and even he can't get any progress on it. Anyone know what is happening? I have a Toshiba laptop, if that helps.

Then I thought about it and I feel like a fool. I had put my mini-sd card adapter in my card reader slot, before my departure to ensure the guard and he was not apparently let windows start.

Thank you guys for your help!

  • Last year I had a Dell XPS with Vista Home Premium 64-bit pre-installed. Since then, I've changed over the entire computer with the exception of the still installed with Vista boot drive. Now, the system tells me the software is invalid, and it must be validated.

I realize as OEM OS' are is not supported, but why can't I just buy a new serial of MS no? Does this mean I have to buy Windows 7 since Vista isn't the case to buy more?

    Thank you

    -Mario

    Hello Mario,

I suggest that you contact Dell. Software OEMS is pre-activated and assistance is the responsibility of the OEM - in your Dell case. Explain to them what happened and they should be able to help.

By 'Validate', I assume you mean 'enable '. Have you actually tried activating the software to see if it will turn on? If you have tried to enable you get a message saying that the 'product key is already in use'? If so, take a look at this link from my Web site: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/product_key_already_in_use.htm

You may also like to telephone line (free in most countries) activation by following the instructions in the article above. Explain to them your problem and they may general counsel.

There is no product keys, they must be purchased with physical media, that is, the Vista DVD. Don't try to buy one on EBay or places like that because they are usually pirated copies and the product key would have been blocked by Microsoft, so you will be in the same boat as you are now.

Try to start your system from a 'Live Linux' CD free. This CD runs a version of Linux without installing anything on your hard drive. To create the CD, you download a file '.iso' and feature 'Burn Image' of your CD burner to create a bootable CD. The advantage, that you win, is that Linux is a lot less strict with permissions, so you should be able to access your files and copy them to a USB device. Some Linux Live CD are:
    Knoppix: <>http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html >
    Ubuntu: <>http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/try-ubuntu-before-you-install >
Ubuntu is actually an installation disc, so be very careful to follow the 'Try Me' instructions so that don't accidentally install you it on your hard drive.

An another boot CD, you might try is 'Hiren'. It is in fact a version of 'First environment' of Windows XP, so you could get access to some files that you would otherwise not not when starting on this disc.

  • The hard drive on my iMac crashed while my virtual machine is running. When I try to open the virtual machine 'suspended', I get the following error message: could not open the file 'Windows XP Professional - 000004.vmdk'; The system cannot find the specified file. This file is listed in the contents of the packaging of the XP machine, but it notes the date, the iMac has crashed, which is the last day of work of the virtual machine. I have read through discussions and tried a few things from the knowledge base, but I can't go past the error msg for the virtual machine to run. Any suggestions?

After selecting OK, I then received the second attached message, 'Current Message.png', which reads.. 'your virtual machine has not returned because of an error. If you believe that the error is correctable and you want to keep the suspended state, so you can correct the mistake, after that the virtual machine is turned off, select Preserve. To ignore the waking state, select reject. »

I didn't do anything since getting this second message because I do not know which to choose.

In this case I'd throw away them.

If after following your excellent detailed instructions & explanation (thank you!), here is what happened..

As the machine has begun to resume in a suspended state, that asked me if I moved or copied and I selected, copied.

In cases like this (restore a Machine virtual sauvegardΘ) the correct answer to this question is 'I moved it' even thought 'I copied it' seams more logical, it is not the right answer but with the advent of the second error message, not caused by the answer to the first question, no answer would have mattered.

(if I can just get my prospects for work with this virtual machine files, your help would be invaluable!)

This Virtual Machine is always recoverable, however if you are only interested in the recovery of data from the user then after reading the following quit VMware Fusion and try to mount the virtual disk to the Virtual Machine using the information below.

Take a look at: VMware Fusion (menu bar) > help > Search > type VMDKMounter, and then select use VMDKMounter to mount a virtual drive as a Mac Volume

Notice, ignore the parts on 'to add support for reading / writing to NTFS volumes, you need to install NTFS - 3G separately.' as it is not necessary for recovering files within the VM using VMDKMounter, because you only need read access to retrieve data from the user.

After obtaining your user data disassemble the virtual hard disk on the desktop and then after that you want to retrieve the VM using methods from another just let know us and additional directions can be given.
